Course Overview

The Structural Design Concepts & BIM Course is designed for civil and structural engineering students and professionals who want to develop expertise in structural analysis, design workflows, and BIM-based structural modelling.

This program bridges the gap between structural engineering design and BIM implementation, helping students understand how structural analysis results are converted into coordinated BIM models used in real construction projects.

Students learn structural behaviour, perform analysis using industry software, and develop structural BIM models integrated with architectural and MEP systems, reflecting real multidisciplinary project workflows.

Course Highlights:

  • Structural Engineering Fundamentals Build a strong foundation in structural systems, load behaviour, structural materials, and design concepts used in building structures.
  • Structural Analysis & Design Workflows Learn how structural engineers analyze buildings and interpret design results used in construction projects.
  • BIM-Based Structural Modelling Convert structural design results into coordinated BIM models used in modern construction workflows.
  • Multidisciplinary BIM Coordination Understand how structural models integrate with architectural and MEP disciplines in BIM projects.
  • International BIM Standards Exposure Gain exposure to global BIM practices, including RIBA Plan of Work, ISO 19650 workflows, and LOD frameworks.

Structural Design Training

Students learn how buildings behave structurally and how engineers analyze and design safe structures.
Key training areas include:

  • Structural systems and behaviour
  • Types of loads (dead, live, wind, seismic)
  • Structural materials and design principles
  • Structural analysis concepts
  • Beam, column, slab, and foundation design basics

Students perform structural analysis of building models using industry software and interpret results such as bending moments, shear forces, displacement, and load behaviour.

Industry-Based BIM Project Training

Students work on international BIM project simulations aligned with real structural coordination workflows.

  • LOD 200 — Structural BIM Model Residential Villa (UAE-Based)
  • LOD 300 — Detailed Structural Model Commercial Building (UAE-Based)
  • LOD 350 — Team-Based BIM Coordination Project Commercial Building (UAE-Based)

Through these projects students learn to:

  • Develop structural BIM models
  • Coordinate with architectural and MEP disciplines
  • Perform clash detection and coordination workflows
  • Generate structural documentation from BIM models

⭐ Optional Advanced Module — LOD 400 BIM Project Students may opt for an advanced construction-ready BIM project (additional fee applicable) for deeper coordination and documentation workflows.

BIM Standards & Industry Workflows

Students gain exposure to BIM frameworks used in international construction projects, including:

  • RIBA Plan of Work
  • ISO 19650 BIM standards
  • Levels of Development (LOD)
  • BIM Execution Plan (BEP)
  • Common Data Environment (CDE) workflows

Students also gain conceptual exposure to international building codes such as NBC India, IBC, and Eurocodes.

Career Opportunities After the Course

Graduates of this program can pursue roles such as:

  • Structural BIM Modeler
  • Structural Design Engineer (Junior Level)
  • BIM Structural Engineer
  • Revit Structural Modeler
  • BIM Coordination Engineer

Professionals skilled in both structural design and BIM workflows are increasingly sought after in modern engineering and construction projects worldwide.
